Report for the month of September

Hirak Mondal the only son of Mr Shankar Mondal from Piyali. He has another elder sister who is also part of the Kolkata Centre of Hope.

His Father works as a vendor in the train and earns something between Rs 40/- to Rs 50/- per day. One of the most promising student of the Kolkata Centre of Hope, but everything is not that rosy for him and his family. Most of the time he has to kill his desires and wants because of the scarcity in the family. His father works extremely hard to make both ends meet but most of the time struggles to do so. Hirak loves to study but the difficulties in the family had barred his father from getting him admitted to any school. Along the way some of his neighbors once mentioned about KCOH and at once he came along with his son for admission. Shankar Mondal his father is glad that he could put his son to a school were he can study and do something for himself. Hirak along with studying also helps out his mom in the house. Hirak wants to become a Pilot when he grows up and fly airplanes. My best wishes are with him and his family and may God fulfill his dream.

Some Events from the Month of September :-

Program visit by Mr Saji & Jolly Gheevargese :-

It was nice to have Mr Saji & Jolly Gheevargese from the Hope Worldwide Delhi and our supervising head to have come to visit the Kolkata Centre of Hope. All the staff and the students were extremely glad to meet them and learn from their vast experience in serving the underprivileged. Thanks Saji and Jolly for making time and visiting us.

Teacher’s Day Celebration :-

The very first time Teacher’s Day was celebrated in the Kolkata Centre of Hope. I must agree the children did a fantastic job in organizing it, definitely with a lot of guidance they hosted the program well. They organized a small skit for the teachers, put up a dance performance and even contributed Rs 5/- from their side as a token of gratitude to the tireless serving by their teachers. The Management helped out in purchasing wonderful gifts for the teachers by the contribution collected and presented to them by the students. Over all the students by their performance and the teachers by seeing their performance were extremely happy. A Great Day in total.

Dream fulfilled at the age of 39 :-

Chanchal Bhowmick is the second son to Mr Ratul Chandra Bhowmick who at the age of 72 yrs is still working as a Night Guard just to run his family. Chanchal tried his level best to find a good job for himself after his graduation but was not successful. His other sibling (Brother) is handicapped and hence he was compelled to do some odd tuitions to provide a supporting hand to his Father. Chanchal is 39 yrs, old enough to begin his career. One fine morning Chanchal’s tution student brought him to the Kolkata Centre of Hope in Champahati to check out the institute, Chanchal was very impressed and asked me can he also take admission in the Computer Institute. I gladly agreed and encouraged him stating that education has no limit. If he is keen he can start, thus was the beginning of Chanchal Bhowmick’s relationship with KCOH. Today he is a proud individual, his association with Hope has not only taught him Computers but also helped him to regain his self confidence and motivation to Dream. At the age of 39 yrs Chanchal is seeing his dream getting fulfilled when he got a State Government job in the Health and Family Welfare Department as a Clerk. Now he wants his Father to take rest and he wants to take up the full responsibility of the house. Chanchal is very grateful to KCOH for giving him a new Hope to live his dream, in his words he said “ Hope has given me a new Hope, which I can never forget till the rest of my Life “. I wish him the very best for his future endeavors.

A Farmer’s son wants to open his own Computer and Spoken English Center :-

Siddik Mondal an Arts Graduate from one of the local Colleges in Champahati, has always dreamt to converse in English and be equally competent in with Computers. His father Mr Din Mohammad Mondal is retired and mostly spends time in cultivation. His mother works as a cook in one of the local Bengali Medium school and earns a very meek salary of Rs 1500/- per month. He also has three elder brothers who are married and have their own families, but non of them are in touch with their parents, in other words they have no time for their Mom, Dad and younger brother.

In such a scenario resuming with his dream was highly unlikely. Some how he completed his education but studying in Bengali medium, wouldn’t help in fulfilling his dream. He tried his best and went helter-skelter, traveled far distances gave tuitions, so that he may earn some money to learn English, but wasn’t successful. People promised great results, but nothing worked out till he was introduced to Kolkata Centre of Hope by one of his friend. He initially was skeptical about Hope and couldn’t trust us completely, because of all his past experience. But now the picture is completely different, he trusts us completely and not only that, he brought many of his friends to the institute to get them admitted. He believes and even confessed that “ Studying in Kolkata Centre of Hope was the best thing which could have ever happened in his life “. It was an amazing moment for me and our Spoken English teacher to see Siddik stand and share in English about himself and the Institute in our Ist Annual Day Celebration of our School .The son of a farmer can now believe to see his dream getting fulfilled. May good bless him and his future.
